Look for wineberries in fields, woodland clearings, waste places; anthropogenic sites, in full to part sun. They like well drained moderately moist rich, loamy soil, but tolerates many. Can be found in hardiness Zones (USDA): 4-8.
Native of China, Korea and Japan. They were introduced into the USA in the 1890s as rootstock for raspberries and have naturalized into the northeastern portion of North America in USDA zones: 4-8. They can be found throughout the world in parts of Europe, New Zealand, South America, and South Africa.
Culinary Uses: Berry: raw in salad, salsa, dessert, butter, beverage; cooked in dessert, fruit sauce, soup.
